My AP Resources - NEW for the 2019-2020 School Year! |
AP (Advanced Placement) was created by College Board and designed to give high school student the experience of taking intro-level college classes and examinations. Colleges/universities often grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations.
For a high school course to have the AP designation, the course must be audited by the College Board to ascertain that it satisfies the AP curriculum. |
This year the College Board has introduced My AP. My AP contains a variety of supports for AP students including test bank questions and individualized feedback. In addition, students will register for AP exams on My AP. You will register for My AP in your AP classes the first week of school.

Recent GHS grad's personal story about her AP experience:
"I took 8 AP course in 3 years at Glencoe and got "4's" on 6 of them. At my school that equaled 26 credits (which is a full year of credits!) American costs $60000 a year, so taking AP's in high school literally saved me $60000. Because I am already considered class of 2019, I have the option to graduate early, double major/minor, and even study abroad multiple times. I am probably going to stay in school for four years but go abroad two separate semesters to France and Kenya while also picking up minors in Women's Studies and French. Furthermore, my AP classes/credits have allowed me to be an RA next year (a position only juniors and older can do) and they have significantly helped me receive internships, jobs, and research positions since getting to D.C.
I also wanted to point out that I would not have been prepared for college level work, balancing, tests or stress levels without taking AP classes in high school. I am attending a school where most kids come from elite private and international schools. Being from public school, AP classes helped me catch up to my classmates. Even at non-private college and community colleges, expectations are different for students. AP classes actually prepare us for the demands of higher educations. Teacher's had us do activities that I still use in 200 and 300 level courses. Their tests and writing assignments, although not as difficult as college assignments, sufficiently prepared me.
AP classes and extracurricular activities are the two things that prepared me best for college and my life in D.C. I am very grateful for the opportunities Glencoe provided me with by making these courses accessible. Most of what I have considered "successes" in college was due to APs."
